#CancerConversations

Recently, I was approached by the guys and gals over at Big C (Norfolk/Waveney based cancer charity) to be a social media and blog ambassador for their summer campaign #CancerConversations. Naturally, like so many others, I would do anything I can to support these amazing causes so jumped at the chance to write a post for them. I had a few different ideas when it came to how to approach this post and what I could possibly write that would help people open up about cancer and talk about it more; as it is ultimately the aim of this campaign. What could I say that could help? Then I thought about Claire*.

I was 19 years old when I first met Claire. It was a hot afternoon in the salon I worked in at the time and in strolled this glamorous woman, full of confidence and pizzazz. She worked in a shop in the middle of town and truth be told, I had never really heard of Big C until this point. I never did ask how old Claire was but I would guess late 50’s, with all of the spirit of a 21 year old. From then on, sometimes with myself and sometimes with colleagues, Claire would come in weekly to get a blowdry for her new bob we gave her and have a natter. Normally she would come on a break from work, or sneak in early getting someone else to open up for her so she could have her weekly treat. Continue reading

Turtle Bay comes to Norwich!

Thursday nights: normally pretty uneventful right? It’s not quite the weekend yet, it’s a school night and the usual highlight is 7.30 when Jack Branning enters my life again for half an hour. But ohhhhhh no not this week my friend, I went to my first press preview dinner! Ahh! From the second I received the email to the moment my bum hit the seat in the new restaurant in Norwich I could not believe that people actually wanted my opinion on something and went out of their way to get it! It was a real need to pinch myself moment that I am actually a ‘real’ blogger these days and I love it, so thank you everyone who reads my posts, over the last few months I have loved my start on my writing journey!

The importance of good friends

I think you have all probably established by now if you read my blog that I am a bit of a homebody – quiet, bookworm, your typical introvert. But rewind 3 days back to the weekend and you would never know – laughing, telling jokes and confidence were the order of the day! What changed? I was with my best friends.

Lauren and Grant have been my best mates since I was 14 years old (scary!) and I truly think that having them there throughout the different stages my life has had in the last ten years has stopped me going insane! This isn’t to say that they don’t sometimes drive me insane but I do love them so much! From the time my horrible ex boyfriend cheated on me and Lauren was straight round with a shoulder to cry on, to the time Grant suprised me with a trip to the theatre for my 24th birthday, they are always there. Interior wish list & home tour

So I thought that after this recent post, I would carry on the theme of homes and houses by doing a beaut of an interior wish list. Now this isn’t just a filler, fluffy look at these pretty things post – it is genuinely my wish list and not going to lie to you, I just want to collate it for my own reference as much as to share with you all. Since getting the house last year, we have slowly built up a theme in each room but without a money tree in the garden, getting the perfect ‘look at my blogger basic bitch house’ is going to take some time. But luckily, time I do have and prayinggggg this little lot will be under my roof soon! Continue reading

Buying a house for the first time

Shit, 35 years, how old will I be when it ends?

That was what was going through my head when I first received my mortgage offer for the cute little house myself and Dan are lucky enough to have bought. Somehow getting a mortgage doesn’t seem so scary when all you’ve done is think or talk about it – seeing it written down and signing up to 35 years of repayments however is terrifying! Despite the fear, it is the best thing I have ever done and am so proud of myself; At the time of buying I was a 23 year old homeowner, something I never thought I could achieve! So, with that in mind, I am writing this post to walk you through some of the process of being a first time buyer, busting some myths and also letting you know that if you are saving for a house, yes you can do it!  Continue reading
