Wedding series, 1: I said yes…!

Now I don’t know if you’ve noticed but I’ve been leaving hints here and there that I’m currently a bride to be. By hints I mean I’ve literally added ‘Bride to be’ into my twitter bio, changed my cover photo to my engagement ring and generally spoke about it at every possible opportunity since coming back to blogging. Subtly does it.
So I have decided to put you out of your misery and announce to the world that I AM GETTING MARRIEDD! WOOP!

Since I was M.I.A last year and didn’t get a chance to tell you about the most magical evening of my life to date, I thought I would do it now. And actually, I am going to document the whole planning process in my new wedding series – I plan to update you around once a month (don’t worry, I won’t bore you with it all of the time).

So, back to the proposal. It was special, personal, unique and everything I had always hoped it would be. Boy.Done.Good.

We had planned a little Friday date night as my intended Dan had the week off work and it was in April so the nights were just starting to draw out. Only 10 minutes away in the next town of Beccles but it was where we both grew up. There is one spot in Beccles, as mentioned here, which is my favourite spot ever and very much my ‘happy place’. This place is St Michael’s Church and it is on a hill looking over the river and fields, even the thought of it makes me smile. I’ve spent many an hour sat reading or contemplating life here and in summer it has the best sunset you could wish to see.

So on this particular Friday night we parked a little out-of-town and we were walking through the churchyard on to the restaurant I thought we were going to. But on walking past the church tower, Dan suggested we climb to the top as we had never done it together and we weren’t in a rush so why not? It was around 7pm and the sun was setting so the thought of my favourite view had me agreeing instantly. A lovely lady greeted us and gave us a tour of the tower, climbing the winding stairs and telling us the history of the building and showing us the two giant bells inside.
We finally got to the top and the woman left us to look at the view, telling us we could stay for as long as we wanted then come down in our own time. I thought absolutely nothing of this and just thought as we were the only people there, there was no reason for her to rush us. Never in a million years did I stop to think why the tower was open at 7pm on a Friday night!!

We spent a few minutes discussing the view and I was mesmerised – what a lovely evening. I must not have realised how long I had spent gazing across the fields because Daniel called me to get my attention, I had drifted into my own bubble. I whipped round to see what he wanted, only to find him on one knee with a tear in his eye and a ring in his hand. Ohhhmagahd. I never, ever expected this to be what greeted me when I turned round that evening but it was the best thing anyone had ever done for me. After a very emotional few words from each of us, including the important ‘YES!’, we were engaged and smiling like crazy people.

Eventually we descended the tower and came back to reality, only to find the lovely woman who guided us up with a cheeky smile on her face asking me if I had said yes – she was in on it all along and it turned out that the tower was open especially for me! I cannot believe the lengths that my new Fiancé (ah!) had gone to, he had arranged with the local council for the whole thing to happen. What a guy, eh?
We spent the next hour or so ringing round family and friends, tipsy on the champagne provided by the church; It wasn’t the average Friday night by any stretch of the imagination.

So there you have it, my proposal! We are hoping to book our church and evening venue this weekend so after that it will be all systems go – I would be lying if I said I wasn’t already thinking about dress shopping, I cannot bloomin wait! I will post updates on my socials but also as blog posts, I really hope you enjoy reading them but most of all I need recommendations please! If any of you know good wedding suppliers in the South Norfolk/Norwich area, get in touch 🙂
