Matilda. The Twits. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The BFG. What do all of these have in common? They are written by Roald Dahl and I bloody love them. So when Cinema City in the beautiful Norwich offered me tickets to a screening of The BFG, there was only ever going to be one answer!
If you’ve never been, Cinema City is a quaint, small cinema on St Andrew’s Street in Norwich. It is everything I love about a venue, it is full of integrity and character, the historic building is stunning and you will want to wander around to have a little nose at it all. As soon as you walk in, you are hit with a feeling of nostalgia, of a time when going to the cinema was probably something you would put on your glad rags for and when you could really make a night of it.
There are some lovely snacks available (including gourmet popcorn and delicious ice cream), much better than your usual cinema fodder and also there is a great selection of alcoholic drinks too that you can take into the screening if you fancy. Beside all of the latter, there is also a brilliant restaurant called The Dining Rooms attached to the cinema, perfect for a pre-showing meal. Me and Dan chose to grab a drink from The Dining Room’s bar and sat in their outside seating area which was lush as the weather was so great on Saturday night and we caught lots of evening sun, a rare treat! All in all I would really, really recommend visiting this place if you like a hint of days gone by but with all of the mod cons of life in 2016. Continue reading
